Why does melt and pour soap...?

by Sammi

Why does melt and pour soap base actually melt and pour when our rebatching soap goes like mashed potatoes? What is in the melt and pour base to make it melt so well?

Answer:

That's a really good question and unfortunately I don't know the answer.

Here is a list of ingredients that one brand of melt and pour soap base uses.

•Coconut Oil
•Palm Oil
•Safflower Oil
•Glycerine (kosher, of vegetable origin)
•Purified Water
•Sodium Hydroxide (saponifying agent)
•Sorbitol (moisturizer)
•Sorbitan oleate (emulsifier)
•Soy bean protein (conditioner)

I'm not sure if the reason the melt and pour soap base pours the way it does is because of the ingredients or the process they use to make it or a combination of both.
