Storage during curing time

I am trying to figure the best way to store the soap while it is curing for 5-6 weeks. Does it have to sit out in the air totally? I am concerned about losing the wonderful essential oil smell.


I would like to hear what some of you do.

Answer:

Mine are air dried for about 4 weeks and then placed in open totes or boxes to store.

My old refrigerator finally broke. I took the door off now i have a great storage cabinet, the shelves are plastic coated wire. I made a curtain for the front, decorative and keeps out the dust.

I have been putting paper towels over my soap after about a week to keep out the dust.

Would it be alright to place something like a dishtowel on top to cover the soaps and prevent dust from getting on them ?
A towel woudln't really block airflow but still cover them a bit

Answer:

Absolutely! A towel is fine, paper or fabric. Anything that will allow moisture to leave the bars of soap and not trap it around the soap.

At this time, I am letting my soap sit out on a baking rack and air dry for the first three weeks. After that I put it in a plastic box with the lid sitting on sideways to allow plenty of air. I am open to other suggestions.

This is interesting about how to store soaps, I always wonder this myself So when they are curing, I know they need air circulating. But once cured, it would be handy to put them in a box. Do you leave the box open, and don't put a lid on? Or could you put a lid on as long as there was some air circulation, like a small couple of holes?

Hi All! Saw a lady in Australia with a neat rack system and emailed her. The Container Store has a wire shelving system called Elfa and it comes disassembled. Takes a bit of hard hitting with a mallet but the role around units are fantastic. Take a look at ours on YouTube. Have two and plan on getting more.
