Hands Feel Tight

by Gaston

Hello,
I have made my first 2 batches of soap and have let them cure for 3 weeks. What I found with both batches is that they create a wonderful lather, smell great look great, but... they leave my hands feeling tight.
Ingredients were Olive, Palm, Coconut Oil and Shea butter.

Any suggestions?
Gaston

Answer:

My first suggestion would be to let the soap cure for longer. I cure mine for 4 - 6 weeks.

If the soap is still drying to your skin, I suggest the following steps:

1. Reduce the amount of coconut oil.
2. Increase the lye discount so there are more free oils in the final soaps.
3. Try adding Castor Oil to your recipe. Castor oil is a humectant that draws moisture to your skin. I suggest adding around 5%.

Good luck,
Cathy
