If I want to add essential oils not found in a soap recipe, do I need to recalculate the liquid or just add them in addition to the amounts given?
Answer:
You can add up to 5% essential or fragrance oils by weight of the base oils to a recipe. The scent does not change the amount of lye needed.
Example: If your base oils equal 1000 grams, you can add up to 50 grams of essential oils.
Remember that not all essential oils are created equally. Some, like cinnamon, would be far to strong to add that high an amount. Be sure to research the oils you want to use first to avoid unwanted skin reactions.
