Why does my soap always turn brown?

by Anonymous

I just started making cp soap and so far no matter which liquid I use, it turns brown. Am I not letting it cool enough before mixing the oil and lye solution?

Answer:

The colour your soap ends up usually depends on all the ingredients you use in the recipe.

Temperature could play a part but that would depend on which ingredients you used.

If you could give me more details I might be able to help better.

Information like your recipe, including all additives and scents, the temperatures you used, even the types of tools would be helpful.

Be sure you are not using tools that can react with the lye. That could discolour the soap as well. Only plastic, glass and stainless steel tools should come in contact with lye. Lye will eat wood and will react with other metals.
