Where do you get your mica colors from?

by Heather

Hello,

First I would like to thank you for putting up the recipe for your seagrass soap I was eager to try! I can't wait to make it! It sounds lovely.

My question was, where do you buy your mica colors from? I am having trouble finding a site that sells a good selection and CP compatable.

Take care,
Heather

Answer:

Hi Heather,

I get mine from K & W Specialties and from Voyager Soap and Candle but since you're in the States I would suggest From Nature With Love and they also have a Mica Safety Chart that tells you what applications it's ok to use each mica with.

Some other places that have a fair selection of micas are Brambleberry and The Ponte Vedra Soap Shoppe Inc.

I actually only use a couple of micas...emerald, crimson, copper, gold and white. I blend these with oxides and ultramarines to get a really wide range of colours. My oxides and ultramarines include hydrated chromium green oxide, chromium green oxide, yellow oxide, red iron oxide, black oxide, ultramarine blue (medium)and titanium dioxide.

I suggest when you purchase your mica, just get a very small amount and test it...some don't work very well with CP soap. They can get eaten up or the colour can morph from the lye. I would love to see suppliers test their colourants in all mediums and post charts on the results.
