hi again, its me tj again and again. i was kinda wondering what can you say about our soap ingredients here in the philippines. i was taught in a tech. livelihood center to use the formula 60% coco oil, 35% lye 5% additive (MILK, essencial oils, CDEA, preservative, antibac, castor oil, what have you, we were taught to be on the safe side to just stick with this formula and we cant go wrong.
I would like to know the principle behind the formula that you use..maybe if a can learn how to use the lye calculator? by the way we do our lye by mixing caustic soda (1kg) to 2.2Kg water,
thanks a lot
Tj

Answer:

TJ,

For information on how I build a soap formula, visit the Fats and Oils Page of my website.

I can't really comment on your recipe unfortunately since I'm not familiar with the method used to fomulate it. There is a specific formula we use for creating soap but thankfully with the invention of lye calculators we don't need to use it....they do the math for us.

Soap Calc is the lye calculator that I use and I find it very easy to work. I highly recommend using it.

I also don't premix my lye...I use it in granular form. Visit the The Process Page for full detailed instructions on how I make soap.

Good luck,
Cathy
