Vanilla

How do you incorporate vanilla into the soap as a scent. Do you use basic vanilla extract or is there a special essential oil?

Answer:

You cannot use vanilla extract to scent your soaps but you can buy vanilla extracts or you can choose from a large variety of vanilla fragrance oils.

Though I tend to lean towards essential oils for scenting soaps, I prefer vanilla fragrance over the extracts.

The extracts are very expensive and are extremely thick...pretty much a paste. I find these quite difficult to work with and the scent doesn't seem better to my nose.

If you decide to go with a vanilla fragrance the only hard part is trying to decide which one to buy...there are just so many to choose from.

Be aware that vanilla extracts and fragrances will turn your soaps anywhere from a light to dark brown.
