Super fat %

Hi, I was just wondering how do you decide what % you put your super fat into the lye calculator?? I've noticed that most of your recipes are 8%. Is there any reason for this?
Thanks

Answer:

The recommended amount for superfatting soap is anywhere from 5% - 10% though it can be higher depending on the recipe.

Most of my recipes have either 5% or 8% superfatting.

The higher the superfat you leave in a bar the more free oils you have left in the final bar which results in a more moisturising bar.

That being said...the more free oils that are left in the bar, the more it is likely that those oils could go rancid.

The decision on how much superfatting to put in is really all about your personal preferences.

Good luck,
Cathy
