Substitute for Palm Oil?

by Anonymous

We want to make soap using coconut oil and olive oil but we don't want to use palm oil. What would be a good substitution for palm oil?

Answer:

Visit my page on Soap Making Oils and scroll down to the heading "Love that Creamy Lather" for a list of oils to use instead of palm oil in a recipe.

Other possible choices to use with the ones listed on my page are Avocado Oil and Rice Bran Oil since they are fairly high in Palmitic acid.

I use SoapCalc to determine the amount of Palmitic and Stearic Acids in my recipes. I try to keep the combined amount (of section 5 in SoapCalc) around 15 - 25. This helps to ensure that the bar is hard and has a nice creamy lather.

Both Stearic and Palmitic acids can be found in many of the oils we use in soap making.

I have been making laundry soap for 4 years now. One day my friend and my daughters mother in law came to the house and said "I have been making soap for a long time. Want to try making some?" Well I was and now I am hooked! So far we made soaping 101 soap until I found this website. Thank you there is a lot information.
