Sodium Lactate

by Diane Este
(Cumberland)

I have been reading about adding sodium lactate to the hot process (crock pot) method.

They say to add sodium lactate at amounts of 1-3%. It will make it pourable.

My question is 1-3% of what?? I am assuming that it is the oils used in the recipe. How do you figure the percentage?

Answer:

I've not used sodium lactate myself but I too would assume that they are referring to the full amount of base oils used in the recipe.

If the recipe uses 1000 grams. of base oils then 1% would be 10 grams(1000 x 1%)and 3% would be 30 grams.

Hope that makes sense,
Cathy
