Sodium Carbonate

by Maria
(New Zealand)

Hi, I live in New Zealand. I would like to make my own soap to sell and so I am looking to buy the ingridients as cheaply as possible. I have trouble finding the sodium hydroxide. I have found sodium carbonate that can be bought from a pool shop, but can I substitute this for the sodium hydroxide or would this make laundry only soap? Which manufacturing industry could I contact for bulk sodium hydroxide?

Thanks,

Maria

Answer:

You can not use Sodium Carbonate to make hand made soap.

Visit my Suppliers Page for a couple of suppliers in Auckland that both list Sodium Hydroxide on their sites.
