Soap with high TFM%

by Shunmuganathan

I would like to produce soap in my home. My aim is it should contain high TFM as much as 80% ie. First Grade soap. My proposed base oils are Ayurvedic Coconut Oil, Olive Oil (good for skin) and other good oil/butter. Please recommend me recipe!

Is high TFM% good for all including babies?

Thanks in advance

Answer:

TFM% = Total Fatty Matter - a method of grading soap. If the TFM% is over 80% it is said to be a Grade 1 soap and if it is between 80 - 65% it is said to be Grade 2.

I'm unsure how to calculate the TFM% of soap. From my quick search on the Web, I only found reference to calculating it using soap samples, chemicals and chemistry equipment to seperate the soaps ingredients. I could not find a reference to calculate the TFM using a handmade soap recipe.

If you are interested in viewing some recipes you can visit my Homemade Soap Recipes page and my Basic Soap Recipes page.

If you have the formula to calculate the total fatty matter of soap, I would love it if you could share it here.
