Soap traced super fast??

I'm really new at soaping but just can't stop. I just this minute attempted the salt scrub soap recipe on this wonderful site.

I changed olive oil for the grapeseed ( which I didn't have) and recalculated the lye.

I put the lye solution into my oils, took a stick blender to it and in 5 seconds it was tracing zoom!! I got all my additives into it quick and shoved into my mold. Is this because of the high coconut oil 70%??

Answer:

It's been a while since I made this one but I don't believe it traced as fast as yours did.

What temperature did you mix the lye solution and the oil solution together? I suggest around 90 degrees F.

Maybe next time use a whisk to start and then use the stick blender if it is taking too long.

Good luck,
Cathy

Salt soap scrub

I mixed when the lye was about 110 and the oils about 105. I'm glad I followed your instructions to cut at 12 hours, it was getting ready to crumble. Now to wait wait wait til I can try it out! Thanks, it looks cool.
