Soap for Teeth...?

Hello,

I hope it's okay to post this question here, as it isn't a question relating to soap making.

I recently came across some American businesses that produce "tooth soap" or "tooth chips" from natural ingredients. (For example, Rose of Sharon Acres and A Wild Soap Bar)

I would love to try this kind of product. Are there are Canadian soap making businesses that make it? I haven't been able to find one yet. The first one who learns the method and produces it will have a corner on the market, that's for sure! *L*

Hi Dawn,

Believe it or not, many people have been using handmade soaps to clean their teeth for years. I even gave it a try but found the taste and texture not to my liking...I'm pretty attached to my Sensodyne toothpaste!

Most recipes for tooth soap are pretty basic. They typically contain Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Palm Oil and edible essential oils such as mints, citrus or spices.

I noticed that the ones you have posted in the above links have included Xylitol, a sugar alcohol sweetener. This sweetener is said to be tooth friendly and can be found in Trident and Stride chewing gums.

If you're wanting to try using handmade soap for your teeth, just find any soap maker who carries a plain, uncoloured soap that is unscented. If you want to try one that is scented with mint or citrus essential oils be sure to ask if they are edible.

To use, simply lather up your tooth brush with the soap and start brushing. Give your mouth a good rinse (or two) after. The foaming mouth takes a little bit to get used to ☺!
