If I'm using a pre-made Melt and Pour soap base and only adding in exfoliants, fragrances and colors, do I need to worry about the Lye factor?

Answer:

No, you don't have to worry about lye at all when using Melt and Pour soap base.

Since it is pre-made, the lye was handled by the manufacturers when the soap was made.

working with premade lye.

If I make my lye solution ahead of time and leave it out at room temperature, do I have to warm it up before making soap or can I just blend it at with the oils and make soap? If not, what the safest way to warm the lye to get it to the correct temperature.

Room Temperature Cold Process Soapmaking
by: Cathy

You certainly can add the room temperature lye water to the room temperature oils.

I don't do my room temperature quite that way....my lye is very hot when I add it to the oils. I like this method because then I don't have premixed lye sitting around and it ensures that all my hard oils melt and blend in.

Since I haven't used room temperature lye before I've found you a link that explains the method.

Good luck and have fun!
