Rebatching

by Kellie

I made some soap using 10oz coconut oil,9 oz olive oil,24 oz veg. shortening, and 6 oz lye and 16 oz goat milk. I poured it into pvc tubes and after a couple of days there is oil at the top of the soap. Can i rebatch it, i dont know if i didnt stir it enough or what happend.

Thanks
Kellie

Answer:

Your recipe looks good...I assumed you were using Crisco for the vegetable shortening when I ran it through SoapCalc.

When oil seperates out of the soap, it usually is a case of pouring before a true trace has been reached. Next time be sure to stir the soap base with a spoon or whisk after using a stick blender. The stick blender is a great tool but it can make the soap base seem thicker than it actually is.

I would definitely gather up all the soap and oil and try to rebatch it.

Good luck,
Cathy
