Rebatching Soap

by Angela
(East Texas)

I made a 5lb soap batch that was supposed to be a pale yellow lemon poppy seed.

I put in a yellow colorant that turned it an ugly mustard color! Is there anything I can do to fix it? Can I add anything to change the color while rebatching?

I'm also not happy with the scent. Is it possible for me to add some other oils to drown out the strong lemon scent?

Answer:

You certainly could try rebatching.

You could try adding some titanium dioxide to the mustard yellow to try to lighten up the colour.

Just remember that whatever colour you add will be a blend of mustard and the new colour. Not sure there is anything that will go with the mustard and not make another earthy colour.

You definitely can add other scents to the lemon. Again, remember that it will be a blend of the lemon and whatever you add. There are quite a few scents that go well with lemon...basil, bergamot, black pepper, cedarwood, clary sage, fennel, geranium, ginger, grapefruit, lavender, marjoram, orange, palmarosa, patchouli, rosemary, tea tree, thyme, vetiver, and ylang ylang to name a few.

Good luck,
Cathy
