Preserving herbs in soap.

by Lana

I made melt and pour soap and used spearmint dried herbs. After a few days using the soap I noticed some brown spots in the soap around the herbs, I assume this is due to water bacteria. How can i help preserve the herbs and prevent this from happening in my next batches?

Answer:

Many herbs do not react well to being immersed into soap and will turn brown.

Theres nothing that I know of that can stop this from happening.

I had heard that herbs and flowers stand up better in melt and pour soap bases than they do in cold process but from what you are saying, it sounds like they can still react.

Visit my page on Herbal Natural Soap Ingredients for a list of ingredients that are good for adding into soap. I've added dill and parsley to cold process soap with success but even they will fade over time.
