Palm oil in CP

Palm oil makes my soap stick and cling to the skin. Why is that, when Crisco does not?

Answer:

After doing a Google search on the ingredients of Crisco (don't have any in the house right now) I found that as of 2010, Crisco contains both soy bean oil and cotton seed oil but no longer contains palm oil.

Using different oils in a recipe will result in a soap that performs differently as well.

Making our own soaps is all about being able to control what we use and how we use it. It's about being able to design them to fit our own personal needs and preferences.

If you prefer the feel of the soap made with Crisco you should continue using it.

Palm Oil & Crisco
by: Shay

I was just reading a box of Crisco the other day and what ingredients it contained. I'm in Ontario Canada and the box said it contained Soy Oil and Palm Oil no mention of cotton seed oil. So it all depends on where you live as to what is in Crisco. I myself have never used Crisco I use lard in my soaps and it makes a nice hard very lathering bar of soap with great moisturizing properties. I also use palm oil in my soaps and they are not sticky so maybe it's just the batch of palm oil you used or where the palm oil comes from or maybe you use more then you should maybe try less. My soaps turn out perfect. The best part of soap making is experimenting and testing new oils, ingredients and ideas. As Cathy says we get to control what goes in our soap when we make it ourselves so experiment a little bit and you will find the exact right ingredients for you and your soaps :>) Enjoy Soapping :>)
