Need help with laundry soap.

My soap is not gelling up over night. It's still watery the next day. I'm following recipe. I'm using 1-1/2 cups borax same amount of washing soda. Instead of using bar soap I'm using dawn dishwashing liquid for nice color. I'm starting it off in one gallon water on stove finishing it in 4 gallons of hot water. What am I doing wrong?

Answer:

This is a different recipe than the one I have listed on my site but using liquid dawn dishwashing detergent is probably one reason that the soap is so liquidy.

My recipe isn't exactly a thick liquid anyway. Handmade laundry soap using bar soap bits are quite thin and not like the soap you are used to purchasing in the grocery store.
