Mixing Sodium Lactate With Ultramarines

by Anonymous

How do you mix ultramarines in a hot process soap batch that has sodium lactate?

Answer:

I am unfamiliar with using sodium lactate, I'm afraid.

I would think you could add the ultramarines in when the soap reaches a thin trace just like you would when using the cold process method but since I don't know anything about sodium lactate, I can't really advise you.

Hopefully one of our readers will have an answer for you.

Good luck,
Cathy

When I'm using the HP method, I add the sodium lactate to my lye water. Sodium Lactate will make your HPed soap more manageable (more fluid) and make a harder bar, without increasing the dry time. I add my colorants to my hp soap after the cook.

Mixing Sodium Lactate With Ultramarines

Thank you! I'm going to try this. The reason I had asked the question was because I got a pungent odor in a batch. I added both sodium lactate and ultramarine coloring at the beginning of the "cook" and my conclusion was that the sodium lactate did not cook well with ultramarines. Maybe ultramarines should not be cooked in the first place and only added at the end of a "hot process" batch.
