Making soap outside in winter

by Anonymous

Can I make soap outside in below zero winter temperatures? Is there a minimum outside temperature needed to make soap?

Answer:

I've never done it myself and honestly I don't think it would be successful.

Below zero temps would result in your lye solution and oils cooling far too quickly.

The soap base would likely thicken due to the cold. This would make it difficult to tell a trace from a false trace.

The ideal for making soap is in a dry, room temperature location away from drafts.
