Lye flakes in distilled water not dissolving

by Deb
(Colorado)

I think my topic says it all....what's happening here?

Anwer:

Sometimes you will get little hard white flakes that seem to resist dissolving.

I use the back of a spoon to squish/break them up. They dissolve much better when they are smaller.

I believe the white flakes are created by moisture having been introduced to the lye flakes while in the lye container. These white flakes seem to be much harder to dissolve than the regular lye flakes or beads.

Hope that helps,
Cathy
