How to get Blue

by Anonymous

I have been asked to make soap favors for my nieces wedding, would love if you would share with me how to get the blue you achieved in the Eucalyptus Tea Tree soap.

I have been using Ultramarine Blue - but keep getting greens or grey blues.

I believe my ratios are incorrect.

Many thanks!

Answer:

To achieve the blue colour in my Eucalyptus and Tea Tree soap I used 1 tsp white mica, 1 tsp ultramarine blue and 1/4 tsp emerald mica. This was for a batch that contained 3300 grams of base oils....palm 30%, coconut 25%, olive 45% (A/B grade - not pomace or virgin).

Remember that the scent you use can colour the soap as well. Eucalyptus and tea tree do not affect colour. Pick a clear coloured essential oil or non-discolouring fragrance oil to maintain the blue colour.

Good luck,
Cathy
