Hi,
I'm doing a science fair project about soap and the different fruits in it.
Is it alright if I just add fruit juice and fruit dices into the basic soap recipe?
Does it matter which type of fruit I use?
And is it alright to use any kind of process?
I would preferably use the room temperature process.
Please reply fast, because I really need to get started.
Thank you! :D

Katarina,
In order to use fruit juice in a soap making recipe, you will need to replace a portion of your water with the juice. I would suggest replacing about 1/3 of the water and adding it after you have mixed the lye solution and the oils....around a thin trace.
I do not suggest adding fruit chunks...they will go moldy. Instead you could puree the fruit and add it in the same manner as the juice by replacing a smaller portion of water with the puree.
I have added powdered carrot and powdered orange zest for the colour they give the soap but no other fruit or vegetable product. I do know that some people add strawberries, apples, peaches, bananas, tomatoes and avocados to their soap recipes.
It will be interesting to see how each fruit reacts with the soap...be sure to do a plain batch so you have a control to compare the fruited soaps to.
The room temperature method should be fine to use.
Good luck,
Cathy
