decorating hot process soap

Is it possible to get that whipped cream look on top of a hot process loaf like they do on cold processed soap, and HOW? Can you mix the hot process method with a cold process method- example: layer the bottom of the mold with a hot process mix, and top it off with a cold process mix?

Answer:

Great question!! I've never combined the two but I don't see why you couldn't.

If I was to do it, I would have all the cold process ingredients ready and waiting to be used as soon as the hot process soap was in the mold. I think I would use the room temperature method because of how quick it is (not having to wait for the lye to reach temp).

I would also keep the hot process soap warm until I added the cold process on top. I think this might help create a better bond between the two soaps. Hot process tends to have a fairly rough surface and that will help too.

Something else that might be fun is to pour half the hot process in the mold, add a sprinkling of small chunks of a different coloured soap and top with the rest of the hot process. Then add your cold process topping.

Have fun with this!
