CP Soap won't Set! HELP!!!

by Dawn Mahles

Hi! I copied a recipe off the internet changing the oils and now my soap won't set.

I made 3 pounds with coconut oil, avocado oil, and sweet almond oil. Had a little residual on the pot from a last batch of shea butter and coco butter also ( not even an oz i'm sure).

Well I did everything as the recipe stated (minus the oil copying) and now the soap has been sitting for 48 hours and is still really soft.

I'm sure it hit trace when I poured it into the mold. I also used Titanium Diaxiode to whiten the soap.

I know coconut oil makes the soap hard and this recipe I believe I only used 4.3oz. Could this be a reason why its so soft? Can I rebatch somehow? Please help!!!

Thanks Dawn

Answer:

When you changed the oils, did you run the recipe through a lye calculator?

Anytime you change the types or amounts of oils in a soap recipe you must recalculate the amount of lye that is needed or the recipe will not work properly.

Assuming that a lack of lye is the problem, I'm not sure if you can rebatch the recipe since you would have to add more liquid in order to add the extra lye needed and that would just make it even softer.

If a lack of lye isn't the problem, then perhaps too much water is.

If you post the recipe you used including the quantities of all the ingredients I may be able to be more helpful.
