CP soap will not melt properly

by Marilyn

My CP batch of soap will not melt properly for MP. It does not liquefy, but turns into a thick mass.

I have tried using hardly any heat, covering the double boiler, not covering it.

The soap itself seems beautiful, I have been using it, just re-melting it is a disappointment.

Answer:

Cold process soap will not melt down like MP soap does.

Unfortunately CP melts down to a gloppy mass that resembles mashed potatoes and it will not pour at all.

It has to be spooned into molds and will not have as smooth a texture as the original non-rebatched CP soap.

As far as I know there isn't any way around it. Adding more liquid doesn't work either because it just makes the soap too soft.

Sorry,
Cathy

if you superfat cp soap to about 10-12% it melts a bit better, it will still be goopy, and the actual soap will be soft after it sets, but it will make a better rebatch oo molding soap
