Coloring soap

Why is it that when I add color to my soap it turns out in specks and not an even color?

For example I put chocolate in one soap and it came out in specks. I also put alkanet in another and it came out in specks. Why don't I get an even color. Thanks for your help. Abby

Answer:

Sounds like the colourant hasn't been mixed in enough. Try adding the colour at a light trace and use a stick blender to mix it in until all lumps are gone.

Some people like to add the colour to liquid glycerin before adding to the soap base. Be sure to get the lumps out before adding to the soap.
