Cheap Soap?

by Shelly
(Ireland)

I'm trying to make my own soap out of cheap white bars of soap I found in Tesco.

Can I just melt it down or what?

So far my attempts have been a disaster...it won't melt for me.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to add water? Thanks

Answer:

You could try one of the methods on the Rebatching Soap page. They are actually meant for rebatching handmade soaps, so I'm not positive if they will work with the soap you bought.

Each of the methods listed does use a small amount of water....you may need to use more since commercial soaps tend to be drier and harder than homemade soaps. This is due to the different types of ingredients and the different methods used in creating commercial soaps.

Good luck,
Cathy
