Changing of colour of made soap

by Habibe

I have made a soap a while back and they started turning yellow. Could you please tell me why this has happened. The soap and all the ingredients are fine. I left the soap in the bathroom once it was ready to use and a few days ago I saw the clear soap that is made turned yellow. Is this normal?

Answer:

I suspect that you are asking me about a melt and pour soap base that has gone yellow after a time.

Most of my knowledge is about cold process soap but I would imagine that melt and pour soap would suffer from some of the same issues.

Cold process soap needs to be stored in a cool dry place until it is going to be used. When cold process soap developes yellowing, it usually means that the soap is going "off". This is usually accompanied by a scent of rancid oil. Maybe the same is true for melt and pour.

My knowledge of melt and pour is limited but perhaps the clear soap base can darken over time?

Sorry I can't be more helpful...
