Butcher Paper vs. Parchment Paper

by Meg
(Oak Harbor, WA)

It appears I have accidently purchased parchment paper rather than butcher. Will this still work to line molds?

Answer:

I think parchment paper is too thin for soap making and would probably leak.

Butchers paper has a plastic film on it that acts as a barrier against leakage.

I use parchment paper to line my wooden molds and it works fine and peels off easily. If you purchase it from a restaurant supplier you can get it in bulk for next to nothing per sheet.

I've used parchment a few times and find it wrinkles and thus wrinkling the soap, but other than that, it doesn't have any other notable problems.
