My family fell in love with the Shea butter and Coconut milk soap recipe. I was wondering what would be the measurements in making a 10lbs batch for this recipe.I LOVE your web site keep up the good work.

To figure out the measurements for a 10 pound batch, I'm going to direct you to SoapCalc.

I can't stress enough how important it is to know how to use a lye calculator. This tool is invaluable when it comes to adjusting and creating soap recipes....and they are so very easy to use once you give it a try!

Begin by opening up SoapCalc and maybe printing out the following instructions so you don't have to click back and forth.

Enter into section #2, the type of weight measures you will be using and the total amount of oils...I always use grams but many people use ounces to weigh their ingredients. For example...if you want 10 lbs and measure in ounces then you would click on "ounces" and enter 160 in the green box.

Next enter the amount of "water as a % of oils" in section #3...I used 33% for this recipe.

Section #4 is for the superfat amount you want...5% was used.

Section #5 gives you the soaping qualities of the oils you use in a recipe...don't worry about it for now.

On to section #6...here you will use the long scrolling list of oils to enter the oils in the recipe. First find the oil you want and click on it. Next, click on the red + button to enter that oil into your recipe. Then enter in the percentage that you want of that oil. I have listed percentages in each recipe. Continue to do this with all the oils in the recipe.

Once all the oils are in, click on #8 to calculate the recipe. Then click on "View or print recipe" and a new page will appear that has all the new amounts you need for a 10 pound batch of Shea butter Coconut Milk soap!

It's that easy!! Don't be afraid to play around with SoapCalc either....click on the numbers on the calculator page for explanations of those sections and explore the other pages...they are all full of usefull soap making information.
