Beef Tallow from McDonalds fryers

by Anonymous

We have a large dairy, I can get tallow from our feed supplier which is used in the formulation of dairy feeds for next to nothing.

The feed supplier says his understanding is that the tallow comes from McDonalds fryers. It solidifies when cooled.

Does this have a possible use in soapmaking?

How would it be purifed if needed?

I am thinking that the heat might cause breakdown of the tallow & be unpredictable in its saponification qualities.

Has anyone tried it?

Answer:

I'm afraid this is a question that I don't have an answer for. Hopefully a reader will have some insight for you.

Good luck,
Cathy
