Batch numbers

How do I make a batch number please for my handmade soaps.

I use melt and pour soap base and justasoap colourants.

Answer:

I'm not sure what you are asking Louise....

Do you mean make soaps in the shape of a number that can be added to a transparent bar of soap?

Or do you mean assigning a number to a soap batch that you have made in order to keep track of it?

To make soaps that are in the shape of a number with melt and pour soap simply cut out the number shape with either a cookier cutter or using a template and a sharp knife from a slab of coloured soap. Then pour a thin layer of transparent soap into your soap mold and spray with rubbing alcohol. Allow to harden slightly and add the number that has also been sprayed with alcohol. Then pour in more transparent soap until the number has been covered and spray again with alcohol to remove any stray bubbles. Allow to harden and remove from the mold.

Now, if you mean assigning a number to each batch of soap you make in order to keep track of it...simply give that batch any number that makes sense to you....for example....a batch of strawberry kiwi scented soap made in August of 2010 might have a batch number like this...SK082010...if you made more than one batch of that soap in August you might assign a number like this...SK2/082010. Be sure to always keep the recipe you used and notes for that recipe with the batch number so that you can refer back to it if needed.

Hope that answers your question,
Cathy
