Bad smell with powdered goats milk soap

by Helen Kelley
(NY)

I made a 4 lb. batch of soap, using olive oil, palm oil, coconut oil, neem oil & castor oil. I set aside a mixture of oil and powdered goats milk. I added it in at light trace. The smell of this batch is noxious to me. The color is an odd color orange. I also used Calla Lily fragrance oil. How can I salvage this 4 lb. batch of soap? Would rebatching work??

Answer:

I suspect that the smell and colour is a result of using the neem oil. Neem oil is usually red in colour and has a very strong odour.

You could try to rebatch and mask the smell with a very strong scent like anise but I'm not sure how successful it would be.

Good luck,
Cathy
